Question 41: Sacrifices and Atonement

In the last post, I talked about how there was a covenantal tradition going back to Adam (Hosea 6:7) and how it had terms (i.e. Torah), instructions for how to live (i.e. mitzvot) and how these terms and instructions commanded a set protocol of sacrifice which we see illustrated in the story of Cain and Abel.

Yet this covenantal protocol for sacrifice evolved over time.  With the creation of the Temple, the protocol became very detailed.

Question 41:  Why can't we just do what Abel did?  Why can't we offer sacrifices right now in order to fulfill the obligation of the covenantal tradition?

  1. Because God instituted in the Law of Moses, where the sacrifices were to be done, in the place where God chooses. He has chosen, and we cannot change that.

There are still groups around the world, gentiles who are not in covenant with God, who offer sacrifices, of course they are usually to idols or false gods, but it still occurs, one could join them and sacrifice to demons if they wanted to.

Also if one does not believe, covenanted Gentiles are obligated to the Law of Moses, then they can go sacrifice all they like, as the regulations would not apply. Of course we see the Law of Moses applied in Acts 15 to gentiles, thus this does not work, this was only tongue-in-cheek.

  2. That's a great point. If gentiles are not bound to the Mosaic Torah, then what's to stop them from creating their own Temple? They could say "We accept Yeshua as the final atonement but we're going to create a temple and a priesthood in order to memorialize and complement what Yeshua has done."

    1. Exactly, hypocritical. It is no different than when people claim gentiles are not party to the Mosaic Covenant, then we read in 'Acts 15' commandments that come directly from the Mosaic Covenant, the math is simple, if a gentile is not party then the gentile cannot be responsible from anything in the Mosaic Covenant, it would be an obvious contradiction of terms, but hey, we all know better than to believe that trash.

  3. Which is exactly what the LDS Church is doing. They are planing to built the Temple in Utah.

    1. The only thing that stops me from getting extremely angry about things like that is knowing how the story ends: Yeshua destroys all of the anti-christ cults and reigns from the TRUE Temple in Jerusalem. This is my only source of comfort.
